Dear Friends,
Greetings !!
“I WANT TO CLIMB EVEREST, WHAT I DO?” – Many friends ask me this question, so thought why not to give detailed answer about it & bring clarity to their queries.
LOVE WHAT YOU DO. DO WHAT YOU LOVE
Mountaineering is an adventure sport. Adventure sports are those in which there can be a risk to ones life; In such games both physical and mental strength is required.
Everyone wants to climb Mount Everest once in a life. To calm the curiosity, I would like to say, Like civil service exams are important for students, Olympics for the players, Likewise, Mount Everest is for the Mountaineers.
It is Mountaineer’s dream to conquer the mighty mountain. Therefore, before climbing and conquering Mount Everest, it is important to understand mountaineering & go through relevant training. Physical strength & Positive mindset is the key to success in mountaineering.
I firmly believe –
“A Good Mountaineer can climb Everest anytime but just by climbing Everest, you can’t be a Good Mountaineer.
Live Life with the formula of – NO NEGATIVITY
Why I am saying this is because; in this era of commercialization, there are many tempting offers by companies to climb Everest. There are many good companies but at the same time, market is full of people who are just in the race of earning money, hardly caring about client’s health & wealth. To climb Everest, you have to be a trained mountaineer & should have climbed some prominent peaks before attempting such a massive task of scaled ng mountain- Everest. If you look at it closely, you will know that there is no loss of any company in it. Just by arranging logistics or Sherpa, you can’t climb Everest. The knowledge, confidence, strength has to be within yourself. One has to be a good mountaineer & the reason will share in next blog- Mountaineer V/s Everester.
Nowadays Everest is more of a fantasy. People have a perception that by just throwing $30K-$50K, company will take them to the top of the world. If you are able to climb any way, the company will take the credit and if some mishap happens, it will be your responsibility. Climbing Everest is a part of mountaineering. Therefore, everyone who is planning to climb Mount Everest should first go through the mountaineering courses then proceed further. In India, there are many prominent institutes conducting mountaineering courses. First of all, enrol yourself for Basic Mountaineering Course. Once you achieve the A grade in basic course, you are eligible to enrol for Advance Mountaineering Course.
Time frame for each of these courses is approx. a month. Course fees can differ from institute to institute. It may be approximately INR 15000 for Indian nationals. Fees may be higher for foreign citizens. Every institute has different rules & regulations but more or less the same.
I am an alumnus of Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Mountaineering & Allied Sports, Manali, Himanchal Pradesh. I would like to express my gratitude for my institute & my instructors. Today what I am in mountaineering, it’s because of ABVIMAS, Manali.
Apart from ABVIMAS, Manali, there are other institutes as well from where you can do these courses like NIM Uttarkashi, HMI Darjeeling, JIM Pahalgam & few more. All these mountaineering institutes have their outstanding performance & remarks in mountaineering. Climbers from these institutes have successfully climbed many prominent peaks all across the world. The information of these institutions along with the link of website is mentioned below. You will also get information about them in Google. I advise to take admission in these courses. There might be waiting time of one to two years for admission into these courses. Please attach your medical certificate along with the application form, if asked by the institute.
After completing the basic and advance course from A grade, climb some mountains. I advice to go for alpine climb with minimum outside assistance. This will boost your confidence n you gain knowledge. For those, who wish to pursue a career in mountaineering should also go for Method of Instruction course. To improve your experiences and get ready for Everest, climb at least four-five mountain peaks which are more than 6000 meters (20000 ft) high, self-supported alpine style.
Then go for Everest. After that you become a professional mountaineer & I firmly believe that you will conquer the mighty mountain- Everest. I hope this information is clear to you. Please provide your opinion in the comment box.
